UP player scores Christmas gift with Lottery jackpot!

LANSING, December 23, 2010 – Christmas will be a little merrier for the lucky Michigan Lottery player who won last night’s Classic Lotto 47 jackpot of $6.5 million!

The winning ticket was purchased at EZ STOP, 975 ONTARIO AVE, MARQUETTE, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The UP was also the site of Michigan’s last Mega Millions jackpot. Steve Mays of Gladstone won $141 million in the October 29 drawing.

The ticket is valid for one year from the draw date. The lucky winner will need to contact the Michigan Lottery’s Public Relations Division at 517-373-1237 to make arrangements to claim the prize.

Lottery offices are closed today and tomorrow for the Christmas holiday and will reopen Monday morning.

Over 94 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2010, the contribution to schools was $701.3 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
