LANSING, August 23, 2010 – An anonymous winner claimed a $1.5 million winning Classic Lotto 47 jackpot ticket today in Lansing.
The lucky man bought his winning own-pick ticket on his birthday. He matched all six numbers by using his birth date and his wife’s birth date. “I usually play those numbers, but sometimes I forget,” he said. “I swear if they fell on a day I forgot to play, I’d be furious.” The winner realized he won by looking in the newspaper Sunday morning. He plans on investing and helping his family with the prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Kroger, 1550 W. Lake Lansing Rd., in East Lansing.
This is the fifth Classic Lotto 47 winning jackpot ticket sold in 2010 and the second winning ticket in the past 30 days. The previous winning jackpot ticket for $2.5 million was sold in Fraser on July 31.
Over 94 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2009, the contribution to schools was $724.5 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
