$250,000 Mega Millions prize set to expire!

LANSING, August 19, 2010 – Lottery players, check your wallets and glove boxes! Another large Michigan Lottery prize is set to expire!

A winning Mega Millions ticket worth $250,000 from August 28, 2009 will expire soon.

This is the second large lottery prize in less than two weeks that is scheduled to expire. A Fantasy 5 prize worth $238,407 went unclaimed and expired on Monday, August 16.

The winning Mega Millions ticket was purchased at Happy Days Party Shop in Warren.  The winning numbers, drawn on August 28, 2009, were 01-17-31-37-54 with a Gold Mega Ball of 31. The winner must match the first five numbers to win the prize.

Because the prize is set to expire on Saturday, August 28 and the Lottery office will be closed, the prize must be claimed by 4 pm in Lansing on Monday, August 30. The winner must contact the Lottery’s Public Relations Division at (517)373-1237 to set up an appointment to claim the prize.

All Mega Millions prizes are valid for one year of the draw date. If the prize goes unclaimed, the money will be deposited into the state School Aid Fund.

Over 94 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2009, the contribution to schools was $724.5 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
