Macomb man wins $200,003!

LANSING, July 23, 2010 – A lucky Lottery winner has claimed a $200,003 prize on a Powerball ticket sold in Shelby Township!

Vito Colomba of Macomb claimed the prize at Lottery Central in Lansing Wednesday.

Instead of making the ticket easy-pick, Colomba picked his own numbers randomly. “Just whatever came to me, I wrote down.” Colomba plans to use this money to pay off his mortgage.

The winning Powerball ticket was purchased at Tina’s Tobacco Outlet, 50368 Schoenherr Rd., in Shelby Township. The ticket was one of two $200,000 winning tickets in the July 17 drawing. The other winning ticket was sold in Westland.

Over 98.5 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2009, the contribution to schools was $724.5 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
