LANSING, September 21, 2009 – Need a tank of gas? The Michigan Lottery is giving players the opportunity to win thousands of dollars in gas cards on its newest instant ticket, Instant Gas™.
In addition to millions of cash prizes and two $15,000 top prizes, players can win 1 of 100 gas cards worth $2,000 each. And with gas prices across the nation averaging $2.55/gallon, a player could fill up a traditional 15-gallon tank over 38 times with one gas card!
Gas card prizes can be claimed at any Lottery Office or licensed claim center. The Lottery will pay the required federal and state withholding taxes on behalf of each gas card prize winner. Cash may not be substituted in lieu of gas card prizes.
“We are always looking for different types of prizes for players,” said Lottery Commissioner M. Scott Bowen. “We have given away cars and now it’s time to fill up our players’ gas tanks.”
Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2008, the contribution to schools was $740.7 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $15 billion to education in Michigan.
