Winner to buy hot rod with prize money

LANSING, March 17, 2008 – A lot of Lottery winners might spend their money on a fast new sports car, but most of them aren’t 82-year-old grandmothers!

A car loving Canton woman claimed half of the March 11 Fantasy 5 prize, $55,000, and plans to put the money in the bank until she can buy a 2009 Camaro.

She also plans to pay off her current car and a few other small bills. She was “surprised” when she checked her numbers in the newspaper the day after the drawing.

The lucky winning own-pick ticket was purchased at NHF One Inc., 45495 Michigan Ave., in Canton.

Fantasy 5 drawings are conducted seven days a week. Jackpots start at $100,000 and grow by approximately $5,000 daily.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2007, the contribution to schools was $748.9 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $14.3 billion to education in Michigan.
