Lottery has cash, seeks big winners!

LANSING, February 20, 2008 – Winners wanted! The Michigan Lottery is brimming with big bucks! The Mega Millions jackpot is a staggering $270 million and the Classic Lotto 47 prize is an unheard of $22.4 million!

With no jackpot winning tickets sold in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing, the prize continues to grow. One lucky player could walk away a multi-millionaire following Friday night’s drawing.

If one winning ticket matches all six numbers in Friday’s drawing and the winner selects annuity payments over 26 years, the $270 million jackpot would amount to pre-tax payments of roughly:

  • $10.4 million per year
  • $865,384 per month
  • $199,704 per week
  • $28,451 per day

For those who prefer to take their cash winnings up-front, it’s a pretty nice payday as well.

A winner matching all six numbers will take home a check for approximately $164.3 million (before taxes), the estimated present cash value of Friday’s $270 million jackpot!

Growing since July of 2007, the Classic Lotto 47 prize is now an all time high at $22.4 million. If one player wins Saturday night’s prize, they could elect to take their prize in 30 annual payments of $746,666 each or a lump sum of $12 million, the estimated present cash value of the $22.4 million prize.

Sales for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing close at 10:45 p.m. on Friday; the drawing will be conducted at 11 p.m. that night.

The Classic Lotto 47 drawing is Saturday at 7:29 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at any Lottery retailer and sales for the drawing will close at 7:08 p.m. tonight.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers.
