Sky high Classic Lotto jackpot continues to grow

LANSING, January 24, 2008 – One lucky winner could be $18.7 million richer on Saturday. The Classic Lotto 47 jackpot continues to grow to record heights.

The $18.7 million prize is over $6 million more than the previous record of $12.6 million.

Nineteen lucky players matched five of six numbers to win $2,500 each in Wednesday’s drawing. The winning numbers were 08 21 34 37 40 47.

Not only is the $18.7 million jackpot the largest in Classic Lotto 47 history, but if a winning ticket is sold in Saturday’s drawing, it would be in the top 25 largest jackpots ever awarded by the Michigan Lottery.

The next Classic Lotto 47 drawing is Saturday at 7:29 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at any Lottery retailer and sales for Saturday’s 7:29 p.m. drawing will close at 7:08 p.m. that night.

The Classic Lotto 47 jackpot starts at $1 million and grows by at least $100,000 each time the jackpot is not won.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2007, the contribution to schools was $748.9 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $14.3 billion to education in Michigan.
