Lottery pays millions to Raffle winners

LANSING, January 3, 2008 – Millions of dollars was collected by seven lucky Michigan Lottery Millionaire Raffle winners on Thursday at Lottery headquarters in Lansing.

An anonymous player from Sparta was a $1 million winner with a ticket she purchased at Party World in Comstock Park. The regular Lottery player didn’t sleep at all last night in anticipation of collecting the prize. The winner will use the money for investments and to pay bills.

The Party Hut in Roseville sold a winning $1 million ticket to the 18 Club, also of Roseville. Club members learned of their win when they saw the store’s name listed on the Lottery Web site. The lucky group has not finalized plans on what to do with the winnings.

An anonymous player claimed a $1 million prize on a ticket purchased at Smoker’s Express in Novi. Also, an anonymous player, who will use the prize money to pay off debts and for investments, was a $1 million winner on a ticket purchased at Kroger in Brownstown Township. The winner thought he’d pass out from shock!

A Grand Rapids player, who chose to remain anonymous, won $100,000 on a ticket purchased at B & B Gas Inc. in Farmington. The winner, an avid player for 35 years, plans on using the prize money for bills, home improvements and sharing with family.

The MSC Lottery Club of Fenwick is $100,000 richer after claiming their prize. One club member will use prize money for a new car and a bathroom remodel, while another will purchase a car and refurbish a 1954 John Deere tractor. Their winning ticket was purchased at Klinkers Korner in Sheridan.
An anonymous player claimed a $100,000 prize on a ticket purchased at Halftime C-Store in Mattawan.

The Millionaire Raffle, drawn on January 2, has six prizes of $1 million; 12 prizes of $100,000; and 2,000 prizes of $500!

Rita Wellman of Onondaga claimed her $100,000 prize Wednesday on a ticket purchased at Zimmerman’s Trading Post in Rives Junction.

Winning numbers from Wednesday’s drawing are available on the Lottery’s Web site at http://www.michigan.gov/lottery and at Lottery regional offices. Retailers can also validate Raffle tickets.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2007, the contribution to schools was $748.9 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $14.3 billion to education in Michigan.
