Classic Lotto 47 jackpot tops Mega Millions

LANSING, December 20, 2007 – The Michigan Lottery is beating Mega Millions!

Saturday’s Classic Lotto 47 jackpot, at a record $14.6 million, is larger than the current Mega Millions jackpot of $12 million. The $14.6 million is the fourth largest lottery jackpot in the country.

Although no jackpot winning tickets were sold in Wednesday’s drawing, 19 lucky winners matched five of six numbers to win $2,500 each. Wednesday’s winning Classic Lotto 47 winning numbers were 02 08 16 19 28 43.

The $14.6 million Classic Lotto 47 jackpot is the largest in the game’s history. The previous record was $12,624,787 which was claimed in July 2007. The jackpot starts at $1 million and grows by at least $100,000 each time the jackpot is not won.

Classic Lotto 47 is a six-digit game drawn Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tickets can be purchased at any Lottery retailer and sales for Saturday night’s 7:29 p.m. drawing will close at 7:08 p.m. that night.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2007, the contribution to schools was $748.9 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $14.3 billion to education in Michigan.
