LANSING, July 12, 2007 – Two Lottery clubs have already claimed over $1 million in prize money in the Michigan Lottery’s third Millionaire Raffle.
The Lottery drew 2,018 winning numbers on Wednesday morning and late that afternoon, the Lucky Smith Woods Lottery Club from Battle Creek picked up their $100,000 prize and the About Time Lottery Club from Coleman cashed in a $1 million ticket.
The Lucky Smith Woods Club members, who purchased their winning ticket at the West Michigan-C Store in Battle Creek, checked the ticket numbers on the Internet. They couldn’t believe their luck! They will use the some of their winnings to pay bills but plan on saving some as well. Club members are regular players but this was their first Lottery raffle ticket purchase.
The seven members of the About Time Club, who will share a $1 million prize on a ticket purchased at Cairn’s Family Market in Coleman, are firm believers that “good things happen to good people.” After checking the Lottery’s Web site and seeing their number in the list of winners, the club rep had gathered other members to confirm her findings. Members hope to “make life a little easier” as a result of their win. The previous largest win for the club, which has been buying tickets for 10 years, was $2,500.
The Millionaire Raffle drew numbers for six prizes of $1 million each; 12 prizes of $100,000 each; and 2,000 prizes of $500 each. Only 600,000 tickets, at $20 each, were sold for the drawing, giving the game the best odds ever offered by the Michigan Lottery to win $1 million.
All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan. In fiscal year 2006, the contribution was $688 million.
