Winner claims "Mega" prize

LANSING, April 5, 2007 – Scott Stocum of Berkley won big when he matched four white ball numbers, plus the Mega ball number, in the March 30 Mega Millions drawing to win $10,000!

The ironworker said he’s been playing the Lottery for five years and this is his largest win to date.  He hid the ticket in a box before claiming his prize at the Lottery office in Sterling Heights.

He has no immediate plans for his prize money.

The man purchased his winning own pick ticket at Sam’s Market, 10099 W. 11 Mile Rd., in Huntington Woods.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.  Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at nearly 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan.  In fiscal year 2006, the contribution was $688 million.
