LANSING, Nov. 30, 2006 – A Saginaw Lottery player said she is has been shaking since she realized she was a $10,000 winner in the November 17 Mega Millions drawing.
Stacy Wood, a business assistant with the Saginaw ISD, said she will “take care of friends”, catch up on bills and have a Merry Christmas with the prize money she claimed today.
Wood, a Lottery player for three or four years, bought her winning ticket at the Fast Lane on State Street in Saginaw. She didn’t check her numbers until 11 days after the drawing when she called the Lottery’s winning numbers hotline. After “my heart skipped a beat”, she called again, then went to a Saginaw retailer for another confirmation. Still wanting to be sure, Wood checked the Lottery’s Web site and realized she was indeed a winner.
Although she held on to the winning ticket for an hour, Wood played it safe and stored it in a safe until claiming her prize at the Lottery’s regional office in Saginaw.
All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan. In fiscal year 2006, the contribution was $688 million.
