$250,000 prize claimed

LANSING, November 6, 2006 – A very lucky Royal Oak man claimed $250,000 after matching all five white ball numbers, without matching the Mega ball, in the October 27 Mega Millions drawing.

Maurice Hufnagel, who has been playing the Lottery since it began, buys one easy-pick draw per week for the Mega game.  He was “nervous” when he realized his ticket was a big winner.

The lucky winner plans to use the money for home repairs, a new car and college for his children.

The winning ticket was purchased at Kroger #486, 26233 Hoover Rd., in Warren.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.  Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at more than 11,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan.  In fiscal year 2006, the contribution was $686.3 million.
