Lansing woman wins $10,000

LANSING, May 19, 2006 – A lucky regular Lottery player matched four white balls and the gold ball in the May 16 Mega Millions drawing to win a $10,000 prize.

Maria Hernandez from Lansing originally thought she won a $5,000 prize.  She was surprised and excited when she learned it was actually double her original thought.  She randomly picked her own numbers and has no immediate plans with her prize money.

The lucky winning ticket was purchased at South Washington Food Market, 6065 S. Washington Rd., in Lansing.

Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery game in Michigan, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.  Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at more than 10,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.

All proceeds from the Lottery are contributed to the state School Aid Fund which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education in Michigan.  In fiscal year 2005, the contribution was $667.6 million.
