LANSING, February 11, 2003 – When Edith White of Auburn Hills sat down to read the Sunday newspaper, she never expected it to be her lucky day! While reading the paper, she learned she had matched five of six numbers in the Michigan Lottery’s WINFALL drawing on Saturday, January 25 to win a $24,609 prize! The winning numbers for that drawing were: 3, 8, 17, 20, 37 and 39.
In total for the January 25, 2003 WINFALL drawing, there were 24 lucky winners who will each receive $24,609 for matching five numbers; 1,137 winners who will each receive $1,090 for matching four numbers; and 21,150 winners who will each receive $53 for matching three numbers.
White, who works as a controller for Alder Design, purchased the winning ticket at Meijer #55, 36600 Van Dyke Ave., in Sterling Heights.
“While reading the newspaper, I learned I had matched five numbers,” said the 63-year-old winner. “Just to be sure, I double-checked the winning numbers on the Michigan Lottery’s Web site (www.michigan.gov/lottery). As the winning numbers came up on the screen, I crossed my fingers and hoped I was right about winning!”
White said she kept the winning ticket in her purse at all times to ensure its safety prior to turning it in at the Lottery’s regional office in Sterling Heights. She added that she currently has no special plans for her winnings.
WINFALL drawings are held twice a week – Wednesday and Saturday – at 7:29 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at more than 7,200 Lottery retailers statewide.
Since it was created in 1972, the Michigan Lottery has returned over $11 billion to the state School Aid Fund, which supports K-12 public education in the state of Michigan.
