LANSING, January 29, 2003 – An Alpena man is a little richer after matching all five numbers in the December 8 Michigan Rolldown drawing to win an $11,122 prize! That day’s winning numbers were: 11, 17, 18, 21 and 26.
In total for the December 8 drawing, 12,154 winners shared $38,681 in prizes. In addition to the sole jackpot winner, 56 winners matched four numbers to win an $81 prize; 1,214 winners matched three numbers to win a $10 prize; and 10,883 winners matched two numbers to win the $1 prize.
The 66-year-old winner purchased the winning ticket at Clems Live Bait & Tackle, 304 N. 9th Avenue, in Alpena.
The lucky man, a retiree from the advertising business, said he discovered he had won while watching the evening news.
“My wife and I were completely shocked,” the winner said. “To be sure that we had won, my wife doubled-checked the winning numbers on the Michigan Lottery’s Web site.”
The winner, who enjoys reading in his spare time, said he chose his winning number combination based upon the birthdates of family members. The lucky winner said he plans to use part of his winnings to put a down payment on a new truck and share the rest with his family.
The winner offered the following words of encouragement to other Lottery hopefuls: “Keep playing! Your numbers and the winnings will come around to you!”
The first Michigan Rolldown drawing was held on February 28, 2000. Drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. The cost to play is $1.00 per wager. Tickets are available at more than 7,000 Lottery retailers statewide.
