LANSING, December 27, 2000 – It was a very happy holiday season for Margaret Markel of Marine City this year, as the "Happy Holidays" instant game ticket she recently scratched off revealed a $10,000 prize!

Markel, 40, said she was "very surprised" to learn she had won a $10,000 prize! She purchased the winning ticket at Corner Grocery, 339 Fairbanks St., in Marine City.

Markel, who works as a cook at Chartwells, said she kept the winning ticket locked in a safe prior to turning it in at the Lottery’s regional office in Sterling Heights. She said she does not yet have any special plans for her winnings at this time.
