Romulus Man Wins Lots of Dough In Lottery's Michigan Rolldown Game!

LANSING, June 29, 2000 — Another lucky Michigan Lottery player is rolling in dough after winning a Michigan Rolldown jackpot! There were two lucky jackpot winners in the June 26 Michigan Rolldown drawing, but only one has come forward to collect his prize so far — a lucky man from Romulus.  The winning numbers in that day’s drawing were: 4, 12, 18, 29 and 33.

The total jackpot prize pool for the June 26 drawing was $21,826. The Romulus man won half of that jackpot, receiving $10,913, before taxes. In total for the June 26 Michigan Rolldown drawing, there were 23,567 winners who shared $75,831 in prizes. In addition to the two jackpot winners, there were 86 winners who matched four numbers for a prize of $104; 2,398 winners who matched three numbers for a prize of $10; and 21,081 winners who matched two numbers for the $1 prize.

The 33-year-old nurse, who requested anonymity, said he was surprised to win the jackpot!

"I watched the drawing on television," the winner said. "I couldn’t believe what I was seeing — I was shocked!"

He purchased the winning Michigan Rolldown ticket at CVS/Pharmacy #08059, 2651 S. Wayne Road, in Westland.  Prior to turning the winning Michigan Rolldown ticket in at the Lottery’s regional office in Redford Township, the winner said he kept it in a cup to ensure its safety. The lucky man said he doesn’t have any specific plans for his winnings at this time.

When not gardening, the winner said he enjoys playing Michigan Lottery games. He added that he has been playing Lottery games for the past four years and his favorites are the Daily 3 game and Michigan Rolldown.

Michigan Rolldown’s first drawing was held Monday, February 28, 2000. Drawings are conducted six days a week — Monday through Saturday — at 7:28 p.m., and the cost to play is $1 per wager. Tickets are available at the more than 6,400 Lottery retailers statewide.

The feature that makes Michigan Rolldown unique among other Michigan Lottery games is the "roll down" feature, ensuring that all of the prize money will be paid out each and every night. In the event that no player matches all five numbers drawn to win the jackpot, that prize money "rolls down" to players who match four of five numbers, giving them an even bigger win!

To play Michigan Rolldown, players select five numbers from a field of 33, or use the "easy pick" feature in which the computer terminal randomly picks five of 33 numbers. Odds to match all five numbers are 1 in 237,336, with overall odds to win a cash prize of 1 in 6.

Cash prizes are awarded for matching five, four, three and even two numbers. These top three prizes are pari-mutuel and, therefore, may vary from drawing to drawing. Pari-mutuel prizes are based on the number of tickets sold and the number of winners matching five, four and three numbers. The prize for matching two numbers is always $1.
