Technical Difficulties With December 2 Michigan Lottery Cash 5 Drawing.

LANSING, December 3, 1999 — Michigan Lottery officials have today announced that the Thursday, December 2, Cash 5 drawing results first shown during the 7:28 p.m. drawing segment have been ruled invalid. Those numbers were: 8, 16, 29, 30 and 37. Due to technical difficulties with the drawing equipment, a second off-air drawing was conducted, and those results were later broadcast on WDIV-TV 4 during the 11 o’clock news hour.

The official winning Cash 5 numbers for Thursday, December 2, are:

10, 25, 29, 33 and 39

According to the Michigan Attorney General, the Michigan Lottery has no legal obligation to pay on the first set of numbers drawn. Commissioner Don Gilmer has determined that due to the unusual and unique circumstances, the Lottery will, in fact, award all verifiable prizes on both the broadcast and official drawings.

"Game integrity and player satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us," Gilmer said. "We make every effort to ensure that all drawings proceed without any problem and, fortunately, these situations are very rare. However, there are literally hundreds of drawings conducted each year. Any time there is an irregularity that affects the validity of a drawing, we must follow proper procedures to correct it. I can assure you that we are looking at all aspects of the drawing procedures to ensure this problem will not occur in the future."

Michigan Lottery drawings are conducted under the supervision of a Lottery drawing manager and an independent auditor from the firm of Alan Young & Associates.
