LANSING, November 20, 1999 — When Mario Kyprianou’s aunt and uncle gave him 100 Michigan Lottery Big Game tickets for his birthday last spring, the Dallas resident never dreamed he would actually win. Much to his surprise, one of those tickets matched the first five numbers in the April 2 Big Game drawing making Kyprianou the winner of a $150,000 Big Game prize! That day’s winning numbers were: 8, 25, 26, 28, 35 and the Big Money Ball number was 25.
"I didn’t even know I had won anything until my uncle called me and left a message that said ‘You’re in the money,’" Kyprianou said. "I called him back and, sure enough, I had a winning ticket!"
The winning Big Game "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Cronins Party Store, 29476 Northwestern Hwy., in Southfield.
Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the lucky man kept it in a safe deposit box. Kyprianou, a student at Southern Methodist University, said he doesn’t have any special plans for his winnings yet. He added that he has "always wanted to buy an emu or an ostrich!"
The Big Game is a multistate lottery game in Michigan, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
Big Game drawings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. The next Big Game drawing is tonight (Friday), with an expected jackpot of $10 million.
