LANSING, November 15, 1999 — Carl Davis Sr. of St. Clair Shores knew he had won something on The Big Game ticket he purchased — he just wasn’t sure how much! Davis matched the first five numbers in the November 5 Big Game drawing to win the $150,000 prize. That day’s winning numbers were: 15, 23, 28, 33, 47 and the Big Money Ball number was 9.
"I saw the winning numbers in the Macomb Daily," Davis said. "I asked my wife, ‘How much does matching five numbers pay?’ She got out a Big Game brochure and suddenly yelled, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s $150,000!’ Just to make sure the numbers in the newspaper were really right, we went to the store to get a winning numbers report — that is when we realized we had really won. We never win anything, so we are both totally amazed!"
When not drag racing, Davis said he enjoys playing Michigan Lottery games. He added that he has been playing Michigan Lottery games for the past 23 years, and he truly enjoys the wide variety of games the Lottery offers. Davis purchased the winning Big Game "easy pick" ticket at R-Gang Party Store #2, 37180 Utica Road, in Clinton Township.
Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, Davis kept it in a safe. The 56-year-old Ford Motor Company employee said he plans to use his winnings to pay bills and take a few trips with his wife — the first being to Acapulco in January!
Davis believes anyone can win Lottery games and he encourages other Lottery hopefuls to "just keep playing!"
The Big Game is a multistate lottery game in Michigan, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. Wagers cost $1 each and tickets may be purchased at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
Big Game drawings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. The next Big Game drawing is Tuesday, November 16, with an expected jackpot of $7 million.
