LANSING, November 10, 1999 — When a Las Vegas, Nevada woman purchased a Michigan Lotto ticket while visiting her mother she never thought she would win the jackpot!
The winner, who requested anonymity, held the sole ticket that matched all six numbers in the November 3 Michigan Lotto drawing: 7, 8, 23, 28, 33 and 44. That day’s announced annuitized jackpot was $2.1 million. The Las Vegas woman, however, chose to receive her winnings in one lump-sum payment for $1,091,204, the present cash value of the jackpot before taxes.
"My mom watched the drawing from her home in Michigan and wrote down the winning numbers so I could find out if I had won or not," the winner said. "She called me right after the drawing and sure enough, I had all six numbers on my ticket. I was completely shocked! I kept asking her, ‘are you sure those are the right numbers, Mom?’ I started shaking immediately, and I still can’t believe it!"
The lucky lady purchased the winning Michigan Lotto "easy pick" ticket at Speedway #2296, 6225 Eastman Avenue, in Midland. Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, she placed it under an ice cube tray in her freezer to ensure its safety!
The Las Vegas woman, who spends most of her free time with her granddaughter, said she plans to share her winnings with her family, make investments and purchase a new car.
Michigan Lotto drawings are conducted every Wednesday and Saturday. The estimated jackpot for the Saturday, November 13 drawing is $2.1 million.
