LANSING, September 3, 1999 – A Wyandotte man made the catch of the day when he won the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The avid hunter and fisherman, who requested anonymity, matched all five numbers — 15, 18, 24, 33 and 39 — in the August 18 drawing. The winning Cash 5 ticket was purchased at Dairy Mart #9944, 540 Goddard St., in Wyandotte.
"My wife watched the Cash 5 drawing on television and then checked our ticket afterward," the winner said. "On the first ticket we matched four numbers, so she told me we had a $350 winner. A couple minutes later she told me again that we had a winner. I told her that she had already told me that once. She then said, ‘No, you’ve got a big winner!’ That’s when she told me we had matched all five numbers on the third ticket. I was completely surprised!"
The lucky man said he has been playing Michigan Lottery games for the past 27 years, and his favorites are Cash 5, Michigan Lotto and The Big Game. Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, his wife hid it in a book to keep it safe.
The 71-year-old retiree said he plans to use his winnings to make home improvements, take a vacation and make investments. He offered the following advice to other Lottery hopefuls:
"Play your own numbers and stick with them; you’ll have a better chance of winning!"
Tickets are available for Cash 5 and other Michigan Lottery on-line games at more than 6,400 Lottery retailers throughout the state.
