LANSING, – A Flint resident said he and his mother "both cried" after realizing their good fortune in the August 31 Cash 5 drawing. The lucky man held the sole $100,000 winning ticket to correctly match all five numbers — 3, 14, 20, 28 and 39 — in that night’s drawing.
"I was in the car with my mother when I checked my ticket," said the winner, who requested anonymity. "At first I thought I’d won $350, but we both looked at it again and realized it was worth $100,000. We both just cried!"
The lucky man, a regular player of all Michigan Lottery games for several years, said he selected his own Cash 5 numbers with no specific pattern in mind. He kept his winning Cash 5 ticket safely hidden in a bank envelope in his mother’s car prior to turning the ticket in at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing.
The winner is a government enthusiast who enjoys writing books with a political theme. He said he plans to use his Cash 5 winnings to "pay bills and purchase a new Eldorado."
The Cash 5 winning ticket was purchased at Rite Aid Discount Pharmacy #4310, 5018 Clio Road, in Flint.
Cash 5 drawings are conducted Monday through Friday at 7:28 p.m. Players can win $100,000 for matching five numbers; $350 for matching four numbers; or $20 for matching three numbers. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
