LANSING, August 20, 1999 — It only took one ticket for Karen Richards of White Lake to win the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The 37-year-old winner matched all five numbers in the August 12 drawing — 8, 13, 23, 33 and 35. The winning Cash 5 "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Gin Mill Party Store, 8240 Highland Road, in White Lake.
"This is the first Cash 5 ticket I have ever purchased," Richards said. "The clerk at the store told me it was his favorite game, so I went ahead and bought a ticket."
Richards, a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, set the ticket aside when she got home and never gave it another thought until her hands started itching!
I called the store to get the winning numbers after my hands wouldn’t quit itching," Richards said. "My hands always itch when we are about to come into money!"
The lucky lady said her favorite Michigan Lottery games are Michigan Lotto, The Big Game and, of course, Cash 5. She said she plans to use her winnings to make home improvements and pay for her children’s college education.
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday through Friday at 7:28 p.m. Players can win $100,000 for matching all five winning numbers; $350 for matching four of five numbers drawn; or $20 for matching three of five numbers drawn.
Tickets are available for Cash 5 and other Michigan Lottery on-line games at more than 6,400 Lottery retailers throughout the state.
