LANSING, May 13, 1999 – A five-member Lottery club from Garden City recently saw its lucky numbers come in, winning the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The club members, who requested anonymity, matched all five numbers – 5, 9, 15, 17 and 18 – in the May 6 drawing. The winning ticket was purchased at Mid Warren Party Store, 6883 Middlebelt Road, in Garden City.
"I saw the winning numbers on WDIV TV-4 and about had a heart attack," the club representative said. "I was very surprised! The next day I gathered everyone together at work and told them that we had won $100,000. None of them could believe it, and one of them started shaking uncontrollably! We were all very excited!"
The winners, who work together at Link Engineering in Plymouth, have been playing Cash 5 as a club since the first Cash 5 drawing in 1992! The club representative said the group chooses their own numbers.
Prior to collecting the prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the club had its representative hang on to the winning ticket to ensure its safety. He said he kept the ticket in a fire-safe box at his house.
Club members said they plan to share their winnings with family members and pay bills.
The lucky club members offered the following encouragement to other Lottery hopefuls: "You have to play to win!"
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday through Friday at 7:28 p.m. Players can win $100,000 for matching all five winning numbers; $350 for matching four of five numbers drawn; or $20 for matching three of five numbers drawn.
Tickets are available for Cash 5 and other Michigan Lottery on-line games at more than 6,400 Lottery retailers throughout the state.
