LANSING, May 12, 1999 – Just a month after the Michigan Lottery’s Big Game jackpot reached a record-setting $197 million, the jackpot run is back in full swing! No one matched all six numbers in the Tuesday, May 11, drawing – 11, 22, 29, 35, 41 and gold 30 – and Lottery officials announced Friday’s expected jackpot at $42 million!
If the Big Game’s not for you, there are also plenty of reasons for Michigan Lottery players to try their luck on Michigan Lotto tonight – 36 MILLION reasons to be exact! After no one matched all six numbers in the Saturday, May 8, Lotto drawing, the jackpot ballooned to an estimated $36 million for tonight’s (May 12) drawing.
"The excitement over these jackpots is beginning to grow," said Michigan Lottery Commissioner Don Gilmer. "Michigan Lottery players all over the state are dreaming about what they would do with the millions of dollars up for grab this week!"
The last time the Lotto jackpot was at this level was on March 3, 1997, and that $34 million jackpot went unclaimed. The Big Game jackpot was most recently at the $40 million level on March 19 of this year, on its way to the $197 million level.
If one winning ticket matches all six numbers in tonight’s (May 12) Michigan Lotto drawing and the player has selected Annuity payments, before taxes it would amount roughly to:
- $1.4 million annually for 25 years; or
- $27,690 per week; or
- $3,950 per day!
On the other hand, if one winning ticket matches all six numbers drawn in Friday’s (May 14) Big Game drawing, a player who chose Annuity payments would receive roughly the following before taxes:
- $1.6 million annually for 26 years; or
- $31,000 per week; or
- $4,400 per day!
Players who select the Cash Option for jackpot winnings for either game would also have a pretty nice payday. The present cash value of the $36 million Lotto jackpot is estimated at $18.7 million, while the $42 million Big Game jackpot has an estimated cash value of $22.6 million.
In the Michigan Lotto game, players can win $100 for matching four of the six numbers drawn, $2,500 for matching five numbers and the jackpot for matching all six numbers. The Big Game offers nine ways to win cash prizes, ranging from $1 to the jackpot, including a second-tier prize of $150,000 for matching the first five numbers. To date, six Big Game jackpots have been won by Michigan Lottery players. Wagers cost $1 each for both Lotto and The Big Game and tickets may be purchased at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
