LANSING, March 4, 1999 – A Detroit man is now $100,000 richer after winning the top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The 68-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, collected the game’s $100,000 prize by matching all five numbers in the March 2 drawing – 1, 4, 11, 14 and 28. The winning ticket was purchased at Lafayette Park Market, 1031 Orleans St., in Detroit.
"I watch every Cash 5 drawing," the winner said. "When I saw the numbers come up for this drawing I thought I had only matched four numbers at first. I had my brother double-check the ticket for me to tell me how many numbers I had matched. He looked at it and said ‘I can’t believe it – you have them all!’ We were both very happy! Neither one of us has been able to sleep since it happened!"
Prior to collecting his prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the Detroit man kept the ticket in his pocket at all times for safe keeping. The winner, who said he has been playing Michigan Lottery games for the past 26 years, said he always plays the same set of numbers on Cash 5.
The lucky man said he plans to use his winnings toward the purchase of a home in a warmer climate – possibly Las Vegas.
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Odds to win the $100,000 top prize are one in 575,757. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
