Taylor Man Wins $100,000 In Cash 5 Drawing!

LANSING, January 25, 1999 – A Taylor man started the new year off in grand style, winning the top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!

The 69-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, collected the game’s $100,000 top prize by matching all five numbers in the January 1 drawing – 9, 15, 23, 29 and 34.  The winning Cash 5 "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Southland Corporation #13482 (7-Eleven), 20945 Ecorse Road, in Taylor.

"I watched the Cash 5 drawing on WDIV – Channel 4," the winner said.  "I was in shock when I realized I had matched all five numbers!  I poured myself a drink to calm my nerves and then called my daughter to tell her that I had won."

Prior to collecting his prize at Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the Taylor man said he hid the winning ticket in "a 007 spot" in his house.  The avid bow hunter has been playing Michigan Lottery games since the day it started.  He said he plans to share his winnings with his children and pay off debts.

Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Odds to win the $100,000 top prize are one in 575,757.  Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
