Westland Woman Wins $100,000 In Cash 5 Drawing!

LANSING, December 22, 1998 – A Westland woman is now $100,000 richer after winning the top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!

The 88-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, collected the game’s $100,000 top prize by matching all five numbers in the December 17 drawing – 4, 7, 8, 10 and 36.  The winning "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Abby’s Service Station, 1716 S. Merriman Rd., in Westland.

Due to an illness that prevented the Westland woman from traveling to Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the winner’s son claimed the prize for her in her name.

"I watched the Cash 5 drawing on WDIV – Channel 4, wrote down the numbers and then checked them against my mom’s tickets," the winner’s son said.  "I looked at them 10 times before I could believe it was really happening!  I was very surprised that she had won!"

The Westland woman doesn’t have any special plans for the money yet.  Her son said she will probably put it in the bank for now and decide what to do with it later.

Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Odds to win the $100,000 prize are one in 575,757.  Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
