LANSING, December 1, 1998 – A Wyoming woman really cashed in when she won the $100,000 top prize in the Michigan Lottery’s Cash 5 game!
The 69-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, matched all five numbers – 8, 11, 13, 18 and 29 – in the November 17 drawing. In addition to matching all five numbers on one ticket, she also matched three numbers on another ticket, for the same drawing, winning an additional $20!
She purchased the winning Cash 5 tickets at Refine Mart Inc., 1590 36th Street SW, in Wyoming. The retiree said the winning numbers have special significance to her as they represent family members’ birthdays.
"My husband saw the winning numbers in the Grand Rapids Press and thought I had matched all of them," she said. "We went to the Lottery regional office in Wyoming and they verified that I had a winner. I was extremely happy and totally surprised that I had won!"
Prior to collecting her prize at the Lottery’s headquarters in Lansing, the Wyoming woman hid the winning ticket in several different places including her purse and a drawer in her house. She said she plans to share her winnings with her children and grandchildren, make some investments and take a vacation.
The winner said she has been playing the Michigan Lottery since the day it started, and she offered the following advice to other Lottery hopefuls: "Play Cash 5! I have always had a feeling that I could win on Cash 5!"
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Odds to win the $100,000 prize are 1 in 575,757. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
