LANSING, November 23, 1998 – A Lansing man got an early holiday gift when he won a $100,000 prize on a Michigan Lottery "$1,000,000 Gift" instant ticket.
The 56-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, purchased the winning ticket at Quality Dairy Company #28, 2625 E. Jolly Road, in Lansing.
"I scratched off the ticket while on a break at work," he said. "At first I thought I had won $10, then I thought it was $1,000 and, after looking at it a little longer, I realized I had won $100,000! I was completely shocked! I called my wife right away to tell her what I had won."
The truck driver for White’s Trucking in Lansing said he has been playing the Lottery since the day it began. Prior to turning in the winning ticket at the Lottery’s headquarters, he had his wife put the ticket in her purse for safe keeping. The winner said he was "still thinking about" how to use his winnings.
For other Lottery hopefuls, the winner offered the following advice: "Don’t give up! I kept telling my wife that I was going to win – and I did!"
"$1,000,000 Gift" is just one of many Michigan Lottery instant tickets available at more than 9,300 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
