LANSING, October 12, 1998 – A Paw Paw woman recently became a millionaire thanks to the prize she won in a recent Michigan Lotto drawing!
The 58-year-old retiree matched all six numbers in the October 3 Michigan Lotto drawing to win the $1.7 million prize. That day’s winning numbers were: 2, 12, 19, 29, 34 and 44.
"I saw the winning numbers in the Kalamazoo Gazette," she said. "I was speechless when I saw the numbers! I said to my husband ‘We have all six,’ and he thought I was kidding. We were both so shocked, we had to look at the numbers over and over again!"
The Paw Paw resident, who requested anonymity, said she plays the Lotto and Michigan Lottery instant games regularly. She purchased the winning Michigan Lotto "easy pick" ticket at Crystal Flash #06, 711 S. Kalamazoo St., in Paw Paw.
The lucky winner chose the lump-sum cash option payment for her winnings. She came to Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing to collect her one-time prize payment of $1,714,749, the present cash value of that day’s announced $3.3 million jackpot, before taxes.
The new millionaire said she and her husband may use part of the winnings to buy a new house in Florida, and will invest the rest. For other Lottery hopefuls, she offered the following advice: "Keep playing – don’t give up!"
Michigan Lotto drawings are conducted every Wednesday and Saturday. The expected jackpot for Wednesday’s (October 14) drawing is $2.3 million.
