LANSING, September 30, 1998 – A Davison resident is now $100,000 richer, thanks to the winning Michigan Lottery Cash 5 ticket he recently purchased!
The 74-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, collected the game’s $100,000 top prize by matching all five numbers in the September 28 drawing – 1, 4, 12, 23 and 24. The winning ticket was purchased at Marathon #8403, 1177 S. State Road, in Davison.
The retired General Motors assembly line worker said he has been a regular Cash 5 player since the game was introduced six years ago. He uses the same set of numbers on every Cash 5 ticket he purchases. He always uses those particular numbers because they are his birthday and his late wife’s birthday.
"I turned the television on, wrote down the winning numbers and then looked at my ticket," he said. "When I saw I had all five of the numbers I said to myself, out loud, ‘I can’t believe it!’ I called my sister right away to tell her that I had just won $100,000 on Cash 5 and she didn’t believe me! It wasn’t until the next day when she saw the winning numbers in the Detroit Free Press that she finally believed I had won."
The Davison man said he plans to share his winnings with his sister and possibly take a trip to Florida.
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Odds to win the $100,000 prize are 1 in 575,757. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
