LANSING, September 18, 1998 – Two West Michigan residents are now $100,000 richer, thanks to the winning Michigan Lottery Cash 5 tickets they recently purchased!
A Grand Rapids man, who requested anonymity, said he has been a regular Michigan Lottery player since 1972. His winning "easy pick" Cash 5 ticket matched all five numbers in the August 3 drawing – 20, 25, 33, 37 and 39 – to win the game’s top prize of $100,000. The winning ticket was purchased at Meijer Inc. #20 at 2425 Alpine Ave. NW in Grand Rapids.
"I got the Grand Rapids Press and had my tickets all laid out," the winner said. "I checked my tickets and there were my numbers. I was pretty calm, then I called my sister and she made me call Lottery headquarters before she would believe me."
The 67-year-old American Seating retiree said he had no specific plans for his winnings, but might purchase a new truck.
In Muskegon, another Cash 5 player was shocked to find out that he had won $100,000 in the September 8 drawing. The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, matched all five numbers drawn – 8, 9, 17, 28 and 29.
"I read the numbers in the newspaper and couldn’t believe that I had really won," he said.
The winning Cash 5 ticket was purchased at Benson Drug Company Inc., 961 Spring Street, in Muskegon.
Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Odds to win the $100,000 prize are 1 in 575,757. Tickets are available at more than 6,400 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
