Lansing Lottery Club Collects $5.3 Million Lotto Jackpot!

LANSING, July 15, 1998 – One member of a Lansing lottery club was so unsure of a recent jackpot win that he didn’t tell the other members the good news for more than a month!  It was for real, however, and the three-member club will split the $5,300,000 jackpot from the April 18 Michigan Lotto drawing!

The winning Michigan Lotto "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Quality Dairy Co. #16, 5100 S. Waverly Road, in Lansing.  The winning numbers in that day’s Michigan Lotto drawing were: 7, 13, 14, 19, 31 and 42.

The club representative, who explained that all club members requested anonymity, recently came to Lottery headquarters to pick up the club’s first installment check of $212,000, before taxes.  That will be followed by 24 equal annual installments.

"I had the ticket sitting on a table for awhile, and I’m not a very organized person," said the club representative.  "About a week after the drawing I decided I should check the numbers."

"When I saw the drawing results, I was so unsure I didn’t say anything to the other club members for about a month," he said.  "Even though I looked at the ticket a dozen times, I had to wait for it to sink in before I could tell them.  When I did tell the other two members, they both had tears in their eyes."

Club members, aged 44, 47 and 72, said they’ve decided to invest at least half of their winnings and make home improvements.  As for the rest, they said "it really hasn’t sunk in yet."  The members have played Lottery games as a club for about 10 years.

Michigan Lotto drawings are conducted every Wednesday and Saturday.  The expected jackpot for tonight’s (July 15) drawing is $2.1 million.
