LANSING, June 10, 1998 – Four lucky Michigan Lottery players from Genesee County have celebrated big wins recently, including a $4.6 million Lotto jackpot!
An anonymous Flint man got quite a surprise when he brought his Michigan Lotto ticket to Lottery headquarters, unsure of the prize value.
"I didn’t know until I brought my ticket to Lansing that it was worth $4.6 million!" said the winner. "I had actually forgotten about the ticket. I was going to make a deposit and saw the ticket, and I figured it would be a good idea to check it."
It turned out to be a very good idea because he matched all six winning Lotto numbers in the May 6 drawing, winning the $4,615,393 jackpot! That day’s winning numbers were: 5, 7, 17, 20, 31 and 45.
The winner selected annuity payment for his prize and collected his first installment of $184,993 (before taxes), to be followed by 24 yearly installments of $184,600.
The 33-year-old winner said he and his wife will use their Lotto winnings to pay off some debt, make investments and plan for their children’s college education.
The winning Michigan Lotto ticket was purchased at Ramys, 5425 S. Dort Highway, in Flint.
A local Clio woman beat the odds to find a $250,000 winning ticket in the Lottery’s "25th Anniversary Cash" instant game.
"I scratched off my ticket at work, and immediately screamed for my boss," said the winner, who requested anonymity. "I called my husband and said, ‘I won some major money.’ I thought at first I was misreading the ticket; even now I still can’t comprehend it!"
A regular Michigan Lottery player for the last year, the 39-year-old winner said she and her husband will use their winnings to pay bills, make investments and take a vacation.
The winning "25th Anniversary Cash" ticket was sold at Vics Market, 8592 N. Seymour Road, in Flushing.
An 80-year-old Flint-area woman matched all five numbers in the April 28 Cash 5 drawing to win the game’s $100,000 prize.
The winner, who requested anonymity, was stunned to see her numbers in the paper.
"I checked the numbers the following day and I just looked and looked at them," she said. "I couldn’t believe it. I called my son and sister right away."
A regular Michigan Lottery player since 1972, she said she’ll share her winnings with her children, make investments, and visit family in New Orleans and Arizona.
The winning numbers in the April 28 Cash 5 drawing were: 3, 12, 26, 28 and 30. That day’s winning ticket was sold at Meijer Inc. #28, 4333 W. Pierson Road, in Flint.
A Davison man celebrated his second Cash 5 win in less than a year after matching all five numbers – 5, 15, 18, 26 and 33 – in the February 2 drawing.
The 54-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, said he’ll use his winnings to pay off his car, purchase a condo and "spend the rest!"
The winner said there’s no magic to his Lottery win; he just randomly selected numbers that he liked. The winning ticket was purchased at Georgies Corner, 8020 Fenton Road, in Grand Blanc.
