LANSING, June 10, 1998 – The metro Detroit area is home to two more top winners in the Michigan Lottery’s Big Game: Harvey Moore of Belleville and Karen Campbell of Wyandotte each recently won the game’s $150,000 prize by matching the first five numbers in a drawing.
Moore, 70, already has big plans for his May 1 Big Game winnings. He’s going to buy a new convertible, build a pole barn for his motor home and save the rest.
"I saw the numbers in the paper and called my wife, but I wasn’t sure I really had five numbers right," said Moore. "My wife kept looking at the ticket and when we called the Lottery to verify the numbers, then it was real."
Moore selected his own Big Game numbers, choosing those with special family significance. The winning numbers in the May 1 Big Game drawing were: 2, 17, 29, 35, 46 and the Big Money Ball number was 16.
The winning Big Game ticket was purchased at Andrews Drugs, 444 Main St., in Belleville.
In Wyandotte, Karen Campbell was still "in shock" after collecting the $150,000 prize in the April 7 Big Game drawing. The winning Big Game numbers in that drawing were: 27, 32, 46, 47, 49, and the Big Money Ball number was 7.
"I watched WXYZ-TV 7 to get the numbers, and then I took my ticket to a store to double-check," said Campbell.
"It really hasn’t sunk in yet and I think I’m still in shock," she said. "I never believed this would really happen, but I didn’t quit trying."
Campbell, 43, said she’ll use part of her winnings to pay off her truck loan, buy a camper and maybe even take a cruise.
A daycare teacher at Sandy’s Small World in Wyandotte, Campbell has been a regular Michigan Lottery player for more than 20 years.
The winning Big Game "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Goddard Family Market, 227 Goddard St., in Wyandotte.
Big Game drawings are conducted every Tuesday and Friday. The estimated jackpot for the Friday (June 12) drawing is $5 million.
