Four Metro-Detroit Residents Win Top Michigan Lottery Prizes!

LANSING, February 20, 1998 – Lottery players from southeastern Michigan are on a winning streak lately – four lucky players have recently won prizes ranging from $100,000 to $250,000!  The winners are:
– Lester Parker of Detroit won $150,000 in The Big Game;
– an anonymous Hazel Park man won $250,000 in the Keno game;
– an anonymous Waterford man won $100,000 in the Cash 5 game; and
– an anonymous Washington Township man won $100,000 in the Cash 5 game.

Detroit resident Lester Parker is the latest Lottery player to collect the $150,000 prize in The Big Game, by matching the first five numbers in the February 6 drawing.  That day’s winning numbers were: 4, 9, 15, 23, 29, and the Big Money Ball number was 1.

Parker, who picked numbers with special significance to him, found out he was a big winner the day after the drawing.  "I saw the numbers in the Free Press and called my wife right away."

A regular Michigan Lottery player for 25 years, Parker said he had no immediate plans for his winnings other than sending his wife on a shopping spree!  They will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

The winning Big Game ticket was purchased at Banner Supermarket, 14424 Schaefer Highway, in Detroit.

Beginner’s luck paid off for a Hazel Park man recently.  The 38-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, said he just began playing Keno about six months ago!  He won the $250,000 top prize by matching 10 – 15, 17, 23, 25, 43, 44, 53, 58, 65 and 68 – of the 22 Keno numbers drawn February 5.

"I invested my Cash 5 winnings and purchased the Keno ticket," said the winner.  "As soon as I checked the newspaper I knew it was a winner."

A regular Michigan Lottery player, the winner said he’ll use his winnings to pay bills.

The "easy pick" ticket was purchased at Arbor Drugs Inc. #103, 23722 John R Road, in Hazel Park.

A Washington Township man plans to invest and purchase a new car with his Cash 5 winnings.  He won the $100,000 top prize in the January 23 Cash 5 drawing.  That day’s winning numbers were: 8, 11, 15, 18 and 33.

"I called the Lottery Link hotline (800-822-8888) to get the drawing results and then I double-checked with a store," he said.  "I was shocked for about two minutes and then I shared it with a few family members."

The winner, who requested anonymity, picked his numbers randomly.  The winning ticket was purchased at Uptown Liquor Store, 211 E. St. Clair St., in Romeo.

A Waterford retiree also won the $100,000 Cash 5 top prize, but in the January 27 drawing.  That day’s winning numbers were: 4, 8, 12, 27 and 38.

"I checked the local paper, looked at my numbers and then went to a Lottery regional office to have my ticket verified," he said.  "I just couldn’t believe it."

A regular Michigan Lottery player for 25 years, the winner said he picked his own numbers.  He enjoys hunting, fishing and gardening in his free time.

The winning ticket was purchased at Rite Aid Discount Pharmacy #4476, 4390 Dixie Highway, in Waterford.

Tickets for The Big Game, Cash 5 and Keno are available at more than 6,000 Michigan Lottery retailers statewide.
