LANSING, January 5, 1998 – It’s been an eventful season for Tecumseh resident Roberto Mendez. In less than a month’s time, he has bought a home, welcomed a new baby, and won $100,000 on the Michigan Lottery’s "$1,000,000 Gift" instant game!
"This is just too good to be true," said Mendez, a regular Michigan Lottery player for 10 years. "My wife didn’t believe me at first; she had to hear it from the store manager too!"
Mendez said he plans to use his winnings to pay bills and college loans and possibly buy a new car. As the father of a new baby girl, Mendez said his favorite hobby is spending time with his family. He is self-employed at PlaySmart Recreational Construction Inc.
The winning $100,000 "$1,000,000 Gift" ticket was purchased at Cracker Barrel Market, 9347 Tecumseh Clinton Highway, in Tecumseh.
"$1,000,000 Gift" is the Michigan Lottery’s first $10 instant ticket. It offers a top prize of $1,000,000 instantly, as well as other cash prizes ranging from $10 to $100,000. Overall odds of winning a cash prize are approximately 1 in 2.83.
