"Gerry The Janitor" Cleans Up Again! Macomb Resident Wins 2nd $100,000 Prize In Lottery's Cash 5

LANSING, August 1, 1997 – Gerald Craddock of Macomb can’t believe his luck.  Once was wonderful, but twice is simply terrific!

Craddock matched all five numbers in the July 30 Cash 5 drawing to win the $100,000 prize – the same prize he won in January just last year.

Craddock, affectionately known as "Gerry the Janitor" to the children at Kerby Elementary School in Grosse Pointe Farms, could get used to this kind of thing.

"This is a lot of fun!" he said when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters.  "I hope I can do it again real soon."

"I heard the drawing numbers announced on WWJ Radio and I just about fell off my chair," he said.  "My heart was really moving and all of a sudden I was wide awake.  I called my union contact, Tom Wahls, and told him I would be retiring very soon!"

Craddock, 60, has been employed at Kerby Elementary for 9 1/2 years.  He has been an avid Michigan Lottery player since 1972.

He seems to have the magic touch when it comes to Cash 5; on both of his $100,000 wins, Craddock selected his own winning numbers!  "This time," he said, "I simply selected five numbers that I liked."

Craddock said he and his wife, Norma, would share the winnings with their family and put the rest toward retirement.  His winning ticket was purchased at One Stop Party Shoppe, 16530 21 Mile Road, in Macomb.

The winning Cash 5 numbers on July 30, 1997, were: 13, 14, 18, 28 and 34.

Cash 5 drawings are conducted every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
